SUMMARY:McCullough Bros & Friends w.HORNS!! – Tribut to the Blues Brothers
DESCRIPTION:What began in cramped clubs on the South and West Sides grew into a national force that changed everything from rock and soul to funk and rhythm and blues.\nThe sound was bold, electric, and deeply rooted in lived experience. Artists like Muddy Waters, Howlin’ Wolf, Willie Dixon, Koko Taylor, and Buddy Guy pushed the music forward with amplifier grit, raw emotion, and a swagger that carried far beyond the city.\nBy the time the Blues Brothers arrived on the scene, the Chicago blues tradition had already carved its place in music history.\nTheir mission was simple: celebrate the players who built the foundation and carry the spirit to a new generation. They brought club-ready horn lines, powerhouse vocals, and the unmistakable joy that comes from music created for dancing, shouting, and feeling alive.\nChicago blues remains one of America’s most influential musical movements. It inspired legends, fueled genres, and continues to shape artists across the world.\n

SUMMARY:Art and Sould Gallery and Gift Houses 10th Anniversary!
DESCRIPTION:Ten years ago, a group of local artists decided Ely needed a gallery of its own. What started as a bold idea on Sheridan Street has grown into something none of us could have fully imagined — a thriving cooperative, a community gathering place, and a home for art made right here in the northwoods.\nTo mark a decade of making, we gave our artists a challenge: push the edge. Try something new. Go somewhere you haven’t gone before. The result is Edge Work — a celebration of artistic risk, creative growth, and the kind of work that only comes from ten years of showing up.\nJoin us for the Open House on Thursday, September 10th from 5–7pm. Meet the artists, see the work, and take home a free greeting card as our thank-you for ten years of support.\nFree and open to the public. On view September 1–30 at Art \n

SUMMARY:Community Sing
DESCRIPTION:\nPresented By: Ely Folk School\nPrice: Free\nTime: 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM\n\nFirst Tuesday of the month\n6:00 PM – 7:00 PM\nJoin us on the first Tuesday of every month for community singing. Simply show up (registration is not required) and join the circle of voices. Music will be taught the night of; all voices are welcome to gather and be led in song. There are no auditions or music to read, no performances, and little to no accompanying instrumentation. Community Sing is an entirely oral tradition for people of all ages! Unlike a choir, Community Sing is not divided by traditional voice parts or vocal range. Some songs are sung all together, as call-and-response, in a round, or in taught parts. Community Sing is also non-denominational.\nThis recurring monthly event has no cover charge, though donations are always appreciated. Thank you Chickadee-Dee-Dee for leading us in song!\n

SUMMARY:Art and Soul Gallery and Gift House Presents: The Year of the Horse exhibition
DESCRIPTION:There is something ancient and magnetic about the horse — a creature that has run alongside human history for thousands of years, wild and willing in equal measure. In this August exhibition, Art & Soul Gallery invites you to experience that spirit through the eyes of a local artist.\nWorking in various mediums, the artist captures what photography rarely can: the feeling of movement frozen in a single line, the weight of a mane caught in wind, the quiet intelligence behind a dark eye. These are not portraits of horses so much as portraits of freedom.\nFree and open to the public. On view August 3–31 at Art & Soul Gallery & Gift House, 427 E. Sheridan St., Ely, MN.\n

SUMMARY:Ely For Ely: Community Legacy & Transfer of Wealth
DESCRIPTION:A significant amount of wealth is expected to transfer to Ely over the next 10-20 years, creating opportunities for community endowments, charitable giving, and legacy investments. This series of Ely for Ely gatherings will explore the scale of opportunity Ely has to embrace its huge reach to create lasting wealth for future generations. Together, we will learn more about estate planning, charitable tools, local giving pathways, and more. These meetings are open to all.\nBoundary Waters Connect facilitates an Ely for Ely planning committee, made up of local nonprofit leaders, business owners, and community members, to host a monthly networking and professional development program for Ely-area entrepreneurs, nonprofit leaders, and community members interested in making positive contributions to local affairs.\nThe first meeting in each series will frame the conversation; the second will be an in-depth look at the track, maximizing Extension research, insights, and data. The third gathering will consider local applications and strategies for the future.\nTuesday, August 11 – 7.30 to 9 AM – Ely Folk School\nTuesday, September 15 – 7.30 to 10 AM – Ely Community Center\nTuesday, October 20 – 7.30 to 9 AM – Ely Community Center\n
